Motorbikes Maintenance Tips

All motorbikes require a certain amount of maintenance in order to keep them running and in the best condition possible. Despite the fact that modern bikes are designed to be as reliable as possible, care and attention are still needed. To get the best performance and safety from motorbikes, simple, on-going tasks should be carried out. For a guide to keeping your motorcycle in the best condition, see the following.

Brakes

Brake fluid reservoirs should be checked regularly. Use a brand new bottle of brake fluid every time as it absorbs moisture very easily over time. For improved brake performance, install braided steel brake lines instead of the stock ones.

Tyres

Ensure tyres are correctly inflated and check their pressure often. Use a pencil-type tyre gauge until you can get a feeling for how much they should be inflated. It is time to replace the tyres if their tread is 2mm plus. If you do not, stability and traction will become and issue, and your safety could put at risk.

Chains, Shaft, Belt

Every time you fill motorbikes up with fuel, lubricate the chains with a chain spray. Replace the shaft oil every time the engine oil is changed. Belt tension should be checked frequently and the belt itself should be clean all the time.

Oil

There is some debate as to how often engine oil should be changed. However, it can be said that you should change it every 3 months. A healthier and longer-lasting engine is the result of fresh oil. By checking levels regularly, you will know when it needs to be changed. Oil levels must be near to the maximum as much as possible.

Battery Charge

Check your battery is charged to 100% once a month. Motorbikes lose battery charge rapidly, so making sure it is looked after in winter months is important.
